After brunch, I looked up a couple places to put cranes since I'm not normally in this area. However, after my trip, I realized I hadn't put more cranes in my little pouch that I bring around. Bummer! So I had to be strategic. I had planned on going to the Menlo Park Mall as I had never been there before, but I only had one crane left. That is when I passed by Starbucks and made a split second decision to make that my placement location for the last crane I had on me. And it certainly worked out because this crane was FOUND!

This crane was found by Mary's son, Aidan. "Good afternoon, while out with my kids today, my 11 year old found a Crane at our local Starbucks in Edison. NJ. He immediately came home to check out your website.. what a cool idea! Thanks so much for doing this. Here’s Aidan with the Crane he found!" In a subsequent email Mary said, "He was quite excited to find the Crane and your website, he’s excited just to be a part of it! Such a neat idea. Aidan loves learning about other places and he’s completely fascinated to see all the places the Crane has ended up." So happy to hear from a crane finder, especially one as jazzed as Aidan! Hopefully Aidan has a lot of wonderful trips in his future to all the fun places he's learned about!

The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is a really neat little wilderness area where there are rope bridges, climbing walls, swings, ziplines, and neat looking caves. It's a fun place for folks of all ages that doesn't require waiting in line. It also has some fun facts about California scattered around as well. It was a nice thing to do as we didn't have enough time to wait on line for another ride but still wanted to enjoy a bit more time at the park before departing.

And this crane has been found by Brandy! Brandy wrote, "Yes! I was happy to continue with the crane quest. I have been making cranes since 5th grade and am now 35, so it was nice to find it along our adventure. We took our young daughter to Disneyland for a vacation and we utterly enjoyed the Redwood Challenge Trail; I was happy to come upon your little treasure along the way. I will place it again when I find a good location. Thank you for taking the time to make people smile. It's the little things in life that bring joy."

I popped into Books-A-Million before stopping into the mall for dinner. I do love a good book cover, as the ones shown here are. The reprints of classics often have such a fun and whimsical cover that I always make sure to look at them in any book shop I go into. I've not read near as many classics as I would like, but have a plan to start reading more of them starting in 2018. I'll definitely have to make sure to pick up a couple particularly pretty ones for my home library!

Found! This crane was found by an employee of Books-A-Million who then brought it to their manager. The manager e-mailed me letting me know she had found it, appreciated it, and would email me back once she had replaced it somewhere! Definitely will make sure to update this once I get word. Always love to hear from a crane finder!

I stopped in to see the National Museum of the American Indian as I don't recall this being one of the museums I went to as a kid as I don't think it was even built! This was a very interesting museum with a lot of culture. I've not been to the museum of the same name in New York either, but look forward to going if it's even a portion as wonderful as this one. There were so many nooks and crannies in this museum that I highly doubt I even saw a small portion of what was on display. I look forward to visiting again in the future!

Update:// Eric from Illinois emailed me saying that he had found this crane on a trip to D.C. and brought it back with him to college in Illinois. Definitely one of the further replacements for sure! Thanks a bunch Eric for being part of this project with me!

I decided to take a little poke around to see what Talking Stick had to offer. Down a hallway and around a corner, we found the Cultural Center, which had a number of lovely art pieces there. It was just a little alcove before heading into the hotel portion of the resort but it definitely had some interesting pieces to look at while we waited for the other members of our party to finish up. Definitely worth a look around if you happen to be visiting!

Definition: (adj) relating to logical reasoning
Location Placed: Governor's Palace, Santa Fe, New Mexico
Date Placed: 10/5/15 at 11:22am
Status: FOUND!!

Sadly one of the last little stops but it was so late that I couldn't actually go in an explore. I definitely want to get back here again to visit. But thankfully the crane was found and I was able to get a little bit more information from the finder about this site!

An email from the finder, Jean. "Found crane 728 at the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe, NM.  This building is the oldest continually occupied public building in America, being established in 1610.
Our camera is charging, so will take a photo tomorrow when we place it somewhere.  I hope it will be at the Bandelier National Monument, but if it rains, we may go on to Georgia O'Keefe's Ghost Ranch.  At any rate, will make sure #728 "Analytical" is placed somewhere safe and dry where some other lucky soul can find it and hopefully notify you and pass it on.

This crane was found and replaced at the Thousand Oaks Library in Thousand Oaks, CA.

So if you've found this crane, let me know!!

We decided to stop here on a whim as we had a bit of time to kill and it was along the way. We didn't really know too much about it, but this stop easily falls in my top 3 favorite places of the trip. The views were outstanding. There were a number of places to see petroglyphs on the nearby rocks along with signs indicating what they likely meant.

This crane was found by a woman moving states at the time she found the crane. She didn't indicate that I could use her email that she sent along to me, but I wanted to take a moment to wish her well in her move!

Excalibur looked pretty neat from the outside. A massive castle a little further up from the southern edge of the strip. Definitely looks pretty impressive from the street. Inside it definitely held onto some of it's castle trappings. I was waiting to see a dragon come out from somewhere, or a battle on horses right there on the casino floor. It didn't happen, of course. But it certainly looked like it could!

We spent our long Labor Day Weekend camping up at Kittatinny Campgrounds in New York. We had been there a couple of years prior and really enjoyed it. This weekend was no different. We did a rafting trip down the Delaware River. Definitely was solid weather for campfire cooking and s'mores. I look forward to going camping again next summer.

Another bonus was that I found an email waiting in my inbox when I got home saying that this crane was found! Another group camping found the crane and took a picture! Hopefully that had as great a time as we did.

613. Blessed
Definition: (adj) fortunate, privileged, lucky
Location Placed: Allaire State Park Visitors Center, Howell, New Jersey
Date Placed: 8/8/14 at 3:16pm
Status: FOUND!

So despite living in the area for quite a while, I hadn't been to Allaire State Park for year. And definitely a lot earlier than that in terms of going into all the historic buildings. I wish I had been able to get more time to poke around but my kayaking time ran a bit long. Needless to say I will definitely be back to get some more photos and see all the buildings inside and out. It's so close that it would be a shame not to!

Email from our finder, M: "Hi! This is a picture of your crane, Which i found on a trip with my daycampers to allaire state park. It really brought a smile to my day. I am a great origami lover, and it was cool that i found number 613 , since i am jewish and 613 is a meaningful number in judaism (its the number of mitzvot- commandments). I love your project and think its a great way to get people thinking. For now, the crane is resting on my book crates, but i plan on rereleasing it soon. Good luck! - M"

Thanks for the lovely email and keeping 'Blessed' safe!

Definition: (adj) curious and inquiring
Location Placed: Labadee Artists Market, Labadee, Haiti
Date Placed: 4/30/14 at 2:16pm

The last island we stopped at was Haiti. The cruise line has their own walled off section of the island, so it wasn't the same as the other islands. We were only around other people from the cruise and the people that worked in the compound. It was definitely quite relaxing with all the beach activities and we even tried the ziplining! There was even a little artists market where local artisans came by with their pieces. Lots of wonderful things. If only I had more room in my luggage! It definitely was a wonderful island to cap off the stops on the cruise.

Definition: (adj) excellent or delightful
Location Placed: Starbucks, Freehold, New Jersey
Date Placed: 9/14/13 at 12:19pm
STATUS: FOUND!

The weather has been quite divine lately (unlikely my hastily spelled out crane. Poor thing!) Not too hot, not too cold. I think that might be why autumn is my favorite season. You don't find yourself as bitterly cold as in the winter or as swelteringly hot as the summer, but you get the bonus of pretty colored leaves and fun holidays, unlike the spring. I'm certainly going to try to take advantage of these gorgeous days as best as I can because I know winter isn't too far behind.

The number of waterfalls in Yosemite is impressive. Not only that, but many of them you can climb close to or even around it. There is nothing better after an exhausting and lengthy hike, than being rewarded by standing at the top of a waterfall. That is definitely the sort of exhilarating feeling a girl could get used to! It makes you appreciate the natural world just that much more.

Location Placed: Fair Haven Library, Fair Haven, New Jersey
Date Placed: 5/9/13 at 6:48pm

It took my map-incompetent self a little longer than it ought to find the Fair Haven library. I think I passed by it 3 times before realizing there was a sign and flag right out front. Oops! I love the town of Fair Haven and how quaint the downtown area feels. I don't think I had ever driven through that section before but if the library is any indication of how lovely the town is, I think I'd be happy to live there.

EDIT:// This crane was found by Donna on May 13th! She said she will be re-releasing it soon.

Definition: (n) a payment or gift added to what is usual or expected
Location Placed: Silverball Museum II, Asbury Park, New Jersey
Date Placed: 3/1/13 at 9:29pm
Status: FOUND!

Wow! I haven't been getting out much lately. I've definitely been a winter hermit. But the night out was definitely a bonus! The Silverball Museum, with working pinball machines, is somewhere I had been wanting to visit for a while. I've always had a fond spot in my heart for pinball, so it was really cool to play some of the older machines that I had never even seen before. The oldest machine that I played was 1950. For a pinball machine to be as well kept and in working order as that at 60+ years old is pretty impressive. Next time we have out of town guests, I know where we'll be stopping!

EDIT:// This crane was found on 3/4/13 by Tony who says he is going to make sure it is replaced up in Rhode Island!

Definition: (v) do in a subtle and delicate manner
Location Placed: The Cloisters Museum, New York City, New York
Date Placed: 8/25/12 at 2:45pm
Status: FOUND!

I headed up to the city for a lovely weekend trip to visit a friend. Neither of us had been to The Cloisters, which is a museum that is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's a pretty cool looking old building filled with a bunch of religious art. While I'm not very religious, I definitely appreciated the architecture and views quite a bit.

Not to mention I got an email the following day saying that this crane was found! "I found crane 478 yesterday at the Cloisters Museum & Garden. I picked it up then went to your website. I'm moving to the UK in about a week, would you like me to place the crane there?" So it looks like Finesse is going to be taking a trip across the pond and taking flight to the U.K. Hopefully it, and the finder, have a good trip!

473. Luminous
Definition: (adj) bright or shining, especially in the dark
Location Placed: New Haven Historical Museum, New Haven, Connecticut
Date Placed: 8/4/12 at 12:23pm
Status: Found!

We decided to head over to the New Haven Historical Museum in between the tour we took at the Center Church under the church graveyard, which was pretty interesting, and the tour at Yale University. I really liked all the artwork that they displayed as well as all the interesting relics of the past. I think my favorite thing was the bicycle with a super tiny wheel in the front (for steering) and a huge wheel in the back (we're talking nearly 5 feet from top to bottom!) I'm always intrigued by old signs that depict just how much less expensive things were in the past (it's all relative, I know.)

I'm glad someone else was out enjoying the museum as well! D. found this crane and in his email to me, he said he and his family would be replacing the crane in a Hamden library. So any local folks should be on the lookout for Luminous!

Definition: (v) to care for and encourage in growth and development
Location Placed: Longwood Gardens Visitor's Center, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania
Date Placed: 6/8/12 at 10:17pm
Status: FOUND!

So the reason we were at the gardens so late is that they were having a night lights display, which was stellar. They had all these different sort of fiber optic lights set up in different areas. I wish my camera hadn't died halfway through otherwise I would've gotten a bunch more photos. But it was cool to be in the woods and see hundreds of lit spheres through all the trees. It sort of made me feel like I was in the movie Avatar! Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Definition: (adj) having or showing determined courage in the face of difficulties
Location Placed: Princeton Public Library, Princeton, New Jersey
Date Placed: 6/8/12 at 1:25pm
Status: FOUND!

I hadn't even gotten home yet and I had an email waiting for me from the finder of Plucky!

"Hello,

Just wanted to drop a line and say you brightened my day! I work at the Princeton Public Library and was making my rounds and tidying up when I found crane #414 (Plucky) hanging out on a table between two comfy chairs. Obviously I had to go check out your website and saw you also placed a crane at the Jackson library in my hometown where I worked during high school! I am really inspired by your mission to spread a little joy around. I will be taking Plucky on my ride home (about an hour across the state) and finding a neat place to "re-release" him (her?).

Sincerely,
Elizabeth"

She also brought up a few other good ideas that I might have to do some thinking on. I was so happy to see this in my inbox. It reminds me that I'm not just putting pieces of paper in random places but I'm helping to bring smiles and brighten days. Glad I could reach at least one person today!

404. Fidelity

404. Fidelity
Definition: (n) faithfulness to a person, belief, or cause
Location Placed: The UPS Store, Jackson, New Jersey
Date Placed: 6/4/12 at 3:20pm
Status: Found!

There is something about the word fidelity that I just love. And not because it is an investment company (although that was a very good choice of company name based on the definition!) I don't often hear fidelity used very often so I tend to appreciate it when it is. Perhaps it's the way that I say it, but it has a lot of meaning behind it and it carries weight to me. Do you have a word that you just love or appreciate?

EDIT:// This crane was found on 6/4 by Tom, a UPS store employee. In his email, Tom said, "I found it while I was cleaning and was surprised to see your website and what you are trying to do. It was also funny because we were wondering where it came from. Thank you for all that you do."
