All of my friends who are teachers are counting down the days until summer vacation. Some are very close, and some wish they were much closer than they actually are. I certainly miss the days of having a summer vacation to enjoy! So to all of the teachers out there, good luck for the last remaining few weeks until a few months of well deserved freedom!

I am looking forward to enjoying what New York City has to offer in the spring time. As I am always on a quest for something new, I feel like there are a lot of opportunities to take advantage of when there. I am hoping to do a bit more branching out in the not too distant future now that the weather is getting warmer, and the days are getting a wee bit longer!

Can't think of a more fitting location to release the crane "New" than in the New Amsterdam branch of the New York Public Library system! I was extremely excited to check out a new to me library and I wasn't disappointing. I took the opportunity to pick up a library card while I was there so that I could take advantage of some of the online entities available through the library. And boy does the New York Public Library system deliver! I am excited to take advantage of all of the wonderful things they offer!

It's easy to lose focus on what is most important to you when caught up in the day to day aspects of life. Sometimes it is necessary to take a step back and take a minute to realize all of the wonderful things you have going on. Reach out to friends. Pick up a good book. Take some time to de-stress as the weather goes from the cold of winter to the warmth of spring. Shake off winter and open spring with open arms!

Definitely a perfect word to be used for the spring. This time of year is my absolute favorite in terms of flowering trees. All of the blooms, including the cherry all start to make the world a glorious pink haze of petals. I have such wonderful memories of laying beneath a cherry blossom in the April/May time frame and watching the pink rain down upon me. I'm not the only one who loves them as the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC is an extremely well attended event! While I wasn't able to get over there this year, I still was able to enjoy some of those pink petals before they fell to the ground.

When in Occoquan... So I decided to get some delicious gelato on my way out. One of the great things about this lovely town, is that there is no lack of places that sell delicious treats! So I popped into this shop to enjoy some nice gelato. They also had a beer and wine tasting room upstairs, and a really wonderful little garden out back to sit and enjoy your treats.

In an attempt to see lots of historic houses and sites in one day, I set out to see 4 places. The first was the Marine Museum. The Mill House Museum was the 4th. (One historic house was closed without warning for further notice and the other was closed due to a movie shoot. As you do.) The Mill House Museum is the last remaining bit of the Mill House that was destroyed. It was chocked to the gills with historic photos, knick knacks, and information. It talked a lot about the history of the town of Occoquan and provided a wealth of information sitting at the far end of the downtown district. If you're in town, it's worth a quick peek!

I decided to stop in Occoquan as it looked like a lovely little town situated along the appropriately named Occoquan River. I am a bit of a sucker for small towns with charming little shops. This one was just as lovely. They had live music playing at one of the restaurants with lots of outdoor seating. They had a variety of mom and pop shops of knick knacks, edibles, and pretty outdoor vistas. It certainly helped that I had lovely spring weather!

The National Museum of the Marine Corps is a wonderful museum about the U.S. marines and the history behind them throughout the years. This free museum is staffed by veterans who are extremely informative. They cover the history up through the Vietnam War but are currently in the process of expanding to cover the more recent past. Additionally, there are a ton of wonderful interactive exhibits, video clips, and experiences. It is, hands down, one of the most impressive history museums that I have ever visited!

As watches often do, mine needed a new battery as it had stopped several days prior. I had gotten tired of wearing a watch that wasn't working, glancing at my wrist only to remind myself that it wasn't really 1pm several days prior. So I stopped at this mall in hopes of finding a place that could replace the battery. Among the plethora of other stores, I did indeed find a fellow who did watch repairs. Success was ever so sweet, and it is certainly nice to actually be able to look down and see the correct time again.

I enjoy going to a new place to see what sorts of different things they have that I've not tried before. I enjoyed myself some delicious blueberry iced tea. It was really delicate in flavor and a wonderful treat since the day was unseasonably warm for April. Definitely made for a nice addition while walking around the adorable town of Fredericksburg!

It was here that I discovered my favorite drink is back, the peach green tea lemonade! It is a warm weather favorite, and I always get happy when the peach flavor is back. Generally it means the cold is on its way out, the warmth and fun times are on their way back in.And while it's certainly not been the best of weather as of late, it's definitely been weather where it doesn't hurt to breath outside, or you can stand outside with a light jacket and not freeze. Bring on the warmth!

Man, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the Earl of Sandwich. The last time I had enjoyed that was down in Orlando, Florida as we don't have those around by where I live. So it was a nice treat to find out that this rest area had one! It was a nice treat to break up a long drive home.

I was so excited that I was able to visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial this trip. I had not been back to Washington, D.C. since they had completed the memorial. It was absolutely wonderful. I thought the quotes that they had there were extremely thought provoking, and the location was perfect. It is a very appropriate tribute to an important figure in history. I am so glad the trip into D.C. included this memorial as it was one of the few I hadn't yet visited.

The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is an extremely memorable, somber, and all around educational place to attend. I've been to the museum several times, and am impressed by their poignant exhibits. I believe this should be a required visit while in D.C. for everyone. I attended for the first time on a class trip back in middle school, and this experience was no less moving.
