I certainly had a full day of adventuring in. I don't think I will be able to stay away too long as there are still so many awesome things I didn't get to see during my trip, including the Sleepy Hollow Bridge (if you've heard of or read the Legend of Sleepy Hollow) as well as the cemetery. I foresee another trip up this way before the year is up.

I had never driven this far up the parkway before, so I made sure to stop at this rest stop. I feel like I am doing a lot more driving to see attractions in the last few years than I ever had in the past. Perhaps it's my quest to do fun things so I have interesting places to release cranes or it is that I've just made doing fun things a bigger priority in my life. Whatever the case may be, I'm excited to be traveling new places and further away in my immediate area.

I think my favorite thing about tour is when you are the only one taking the tour. A one-on-one tour makes it feel less like you're being lectured or taught something and more like you are hanging out with a really knowledgeable friend. That is exactly how I felt while visiting Sunnyside. I definitely learned a lot about the area and about Washington Irving and his family. Definitely an interesting lot and a great house to check out. I almost missed out on this tour but thankfully made time for it.

 I was suitably impressed during the tour of this house. Apparently it was considered classier to, rather than have actual marble, to have people paint walls as if they were marble. That was a sign of wealth to show that you could afford to have people paint walls to look like marble rather than the real thing. Perplexing but true! It was definitely the sort of house that, if I were to have a mansion, I'd love to have. It had a wonderful reading room, gorgeous stained glass windows, and a great view of the Tappan Zee. (FYI- Zee is actually 'sea' in Dutch!)

 Sweet Grass Grill was ranked high up in the places TripAdvisor patrons suggested checking out. (And I do so love TripAdvisor when picking my crane releasing locales!) It ended up being a relaxing lunch sitting at the bar and surveying the families, couples, and friend groups enjoying their meals as well. A nice atmosphere definitely helped make a rainy day a bit brighter.

 I think everyone likes feeling accomplished. You've done all the tasks or items you've slated, or you set some new sights for yourself to achieve. Accomplishments lead to feeling good about yourself, or of those around you. I certainly feel quite accomplished with my crane project. I am feeling a bit less accomplished when it comes to moving house. All in good time though.

WHOA, we're halfway there! I cannot believe I hit the halfway mark on my crane project. It both feels like it's been ages since I've started and like I just started. But it's been nearly 3 years that I've been placing little paper cranes out into the world. Here's to the next 500!

Kykuit was definitely a wonderful place to release my halfway crane. Absolutely gorgeous grounds and an informative tour guide make a wonderful trip. Small tours where pictures aren't appreciated indoors make for a seriously blurry placement shot. I have not yet been caught and scolded for taking pictures where I shouldn't be, so I certainly didn't want to start now! But rest assured, "Receptive" was placed in a particularly lovely china dish room.

Rounding out the library tour was the Colts Neck Library. From the outside, it looks like a well kept home from the past, majestic and proper. A lot of the libraries in my area look quite similar, so this impressive library took me by surprise. It looks like it would be a home in the south with its large staircase and horse weather vane. The inside was complete with wingback chairs and seemed like a great place to curl up and read.

It took my map-incompetent self a little longer than it ought to find the Fair Haven library. I think I passed by it 3 times before realizing there was a sign and flag right out front. Oops! I love the town of Fair Haven and how quaint the downtown area feels. I don't think I had ever driven through that section before but if the library is any indication of how lovely the town is, I think I'd be happy to live there.

Thursday night seems to be the night that libraries in my county are open later. So I figured I would take advantage of that and go on a Northern Monmouth County library tour. Despite living up this way for 2 years, I didn't manage to visit some of the town libraries. I decided to pop up to the Oceanic Library to check it out. It was quite posh with a fish tank and well laid out plan. I definitely could see me doing some serious reading in there!

Assistance is definitely something we've been utilizing lately. After spending the last month and a half away from the computer, we've finally bought and moved into a new house. After the storm this past fall, this move has been way overdue. It's nice to finally have our own space and enjoy being able to do homeowner-ly type tasks for a place we'll have some sweat equity (as well as cash equity!) into. Hopefully as the weather warms, the cranes will take flight a bit more often. The good weather, and time off during the summer months, makes for a lot more fun activities and adventures. This winter was a long one, but it's time to say so long.
