After getting a wonderful brunch at Biscuit Love, we jetted over to The Factory in Franklin. It used to be an old stove factory, now turned into a Farmer's Market/local shops venue with a really cool vibe. If we weren't already crazy full, we would've ate at the ice cream place or the donut joint as I do love me a delicious dessert! But we just poked around some of the shops for some interesting wares. While visiting family for the holidays, we popped into White Bison Coffee, which was a really neat coffee chain in the area. They had a large white bison out front and offered a solid selection of hot and cold beverages. As per usual, I went with a fruity iced tea and absolutely was not disappointed! While I didn't get any crane placements, I also went to see the Big Cat Animal Rescue, which was AMAZING. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone in the area. It had a TON of rescued large cats and a variety of other animals. Also I checked out the Tito Goana Trapeze School, which was another unforgettable experience off my bucket list! Tito is an amazing instructor who performed in several shows in his youth and now has retired to teach classes. Such a wonderful class, filled with amazing and supportive people. I went to visit family in Florida and popped into a bunch of different places this time. This was taken at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, which I had never been to before. Tucked away into a very neighborhood area, was this wonderful gardens complete with an orchid house. It was right on the water, so there were lots of really pretty shots among the mangroves. I headed from New York City after work to meeting up for a ride to upstate New York. I had never taken the PATH from the World Trade area to New Jersey before. It was a super easy ride but holy cow, it's a heck of a mess trying to get out of it by car at rush hour on a Friday! Won't be doing that again. But taking the PATH? A friend had recommended I check this place out since I enjoy a good iced tea now and again. With a little bit of time to kill before meeting some friends for dinner, I decided to pop in. The Thompson-Neely House and Mill was a historic homestead that had produced a lot of the flour and cornmeal in the area for a time. The mill is currently functional, but only runs when they have enough volunteers to safely staff it. It was extremely interesting to see the inner workings of the mill and how it functioned. Definitely worth a tour if you're in the area and enjoy touring historic homes and sites!Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-23734112462069987182019-09-22T16:13:00.000-04:002019-09-22T16:13:14.455-04:00946. The Locktender's House and Lock 11 were super interesting! I had no idea there were locks to ship goods up from the Philadelphia area up to the Easton area, passing through New Hope. I figured ships would've just used the Delaware River, but that was not the case. There is also a much greater change in elevation than I would've thought, necessitating the lock system. Currently it is a nice little bike path extending for a good number of miles. If I lived closer, I could see it being a place I regularly visited as it was calm and very picturesque!Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-90027519634502348632019-09-22T15:44:00.000-04:002019-09-22T15:44:48.729-04:00945. The thing I was looking forward to most when visiting New Hope was a ride on the railway. The railway is part history tour, part open rail journey from one town to another. The scenery along the trip was really serene and it was interesting learning about the local history. They have a really neat Christmas tour that I think I'll pop back for one of these winters. It would be particularly lovely of a trip with one of the indoor cars while it's snowing. The key to start off the day on the right foot is a good breakfast! I popped over to the Ferry Market where I snagged a mint iced tea, which was perfect as it was a hot one out. That is why I had chosen New Hope over other places. The best way to start a visit to a new location is to check out the welcome center if there is one. I actually found some useful brochures on nearby places to visit, including one I opted to pop over to later! Definitely a worthwhile stop for the day.Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-87598994685025556722019-08-18T20:14:00.000-04:002019-08-18T20:14:28.724-04:00941. One of my oldest friends and I have started a tradition of getting brunch (usually) monthly at somewhere between us. This month we chose a crepe place in Princeton and then opted to snag some tea and sit out in a park to catch up. Princeton is such a fun town with so many different food and drink options. Definitely no lack of places to check out! I'm pretty sure we have our next several brunches planned out just sticking to Princeton alone.Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-20139873695145997032019-08-18T19:06:00.001-04:002019-08-18T19:06:49.828-04:00940. Having never been to iPlay America before, we popped over for dinner at the restaurant inside the venue to see what it was all about. The food was nothing to write home about, but if I were a kid, I could see myself loving the actual games and rides portion. It definitely would've been somewhere I would've had a party. If you've got some kids in your life, and either a crummy weather summer day or really cold winter day, it's definitely somewhere that will keep the little folks entertained!Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-57252999771513750592019-08-18T17:50:00.001-04:002019-08-18T17:50:34.371-04:00939. This is probably the best place I've been all summer. The Howling Woods Farm is an animal sanctuary for wolfdogs, aka hybrid between a wolf and a dog. They are bred as exotic pets, only to be dumped when people don't realize how much training, space, and time they need to provide to these gorgeous creatures. If you have a bit of spare time, it is ABSOLUTELY worth a visit to check them out. It had been a couple years since I had last been, and it was nice to see some familiar furry faces and some new ones around.Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-19791801714250912172019-08-18T17:39:00.000-04:002019-08-18T17:39:07.744-04:00938. I've been trying to get a bit more out and about this summer, to varies degrees. I hadn't been to this area of Trenton before, but I recalled reading a lot about it in one of my guilty pleasure series by Janet Evanovich. Mostly the Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, series takes place in Trenton with occasionally forays into neighboring towns. The New Jersey capital does not really have the greatest reputation, but this area is really quite lovely and far from actual downtown area.Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-65102272068859850922019-08-17T22:07:00.002-04:002019-08-17T22:07:48.472-04:00937. Despite having lived near and worked in New York City for a while, I've never actually taken the Staten Island Ferry from New York City to Staten Island (and back, of course!) It was definitely a lot of fun. I see the Statue of Liberty regularly when on my way to work, but it was nice to see her up close. I definitely was one of those tourists, taking pictures of her and the boat. Definitely a fun, free activity to take part in if you have a bit of time and want to get out to, what natives to Staten Island call, "The Forgotten Boro."Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-15188572283860721352019-05-13T21:25:00.000-04:002019-05-13T21:25:09.443-04:00935. Unfortunately the long weekend had to come to an end. But I am looking forward to flying through this airport again as it was super convenient to navigate and security was pretty much a breeze! Definitely don't have to worry about large crowds or having trouble being dropped off/picked up. It is a 3 terminal airport servicing a decent number of flights considering the size. Also nice that the pricing wasn't too crazy for being a smaller airport, especially for a direct flight. If you're headed down to this part of Florida, I would definitely suggest flying into here versus some of the larger airports!Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-77315205461123146532019-05-13T21:02:00.000-04:002019-05-13T21:02:44.477-04:00934. The Venice Museum and Archives is a free museum (donations appreciated!) housed in a really neat building that had been moved several blocks down the road from its original location. Having never been to this area of Florida before, I thought it was a really neat historic look at the area buildings and shops, as well as some of the more notable residents. The Barnum and Bailey Circus wintered down in the area. There was a really neat older looking photos of elephants crossing a bridge on foot taken less than 30 years ago! They also had some locally found sharks teeth and fossils/bones from animals that resided here many years ago.Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-66834599722464515782019-05-13T20:52:00.000-04:002019-05-13T20:52:12.821-04:00933. Guptill Cottage is a really lovely historic home on the property with gorgeous old trees and a stones throw away from a boat building shed right along the water. It is impressive that this home has been able to withstand the storms coming off the Gulf for so many years. The Chapel at Historic Spanish Point is just a wee little thing in the woods, next to the cemetery. Due to disuse and lack of upkeep, the original structure was definitely not in good shape before it was renovated and rehabilitated. It even has a working bell! The first stop of the day was to the library attached to the Historic Spanish Point Welcome Center. I thought it was such a lovely place for a library, within a historic site, a pair of my favorite things. I really loved that the library had a nice screened in porch that patrons can sit and enjoy a nice read when the weather is just right. It was a tad north of warmer than my northern blood is able to handle, but it seemed about perfect for the Floridians to enjoy!Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-578382852928663710.post-47534054143321238242019-04-14T17:08:00.000-04:002019-04-14T17:08:37.145-04:00929. I started my visit off with a nice trip around the little nearby town, as I had never been that far south in Florida before. It definitely was a cute downtown area, with lots of little neat shops, including the BEST orchid plant shop I ever had the pleasure of stumbling upon. The next day, we came over to the mall to watch the movie Us. Now, I am not a fan of scary movies, but this one wasn't bad. I don't know if I would quite agree with some of the stellar ratings it received, but it definitely had it's funny parts for a "scary" movie. I'd definitely give it a watch, but perhaps wait until it's out of the theaters. Sandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18238786771475156034noreply@blogger.com0
