While I didn't get any crane placements, I also went to see the Big Cat Animal Rescue, which was AMAZING. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone in the area. It had a TON of rescued large cats and a variety of other animals. Also I checked out the Tito Goana Trapeze School, which was another unforgettable experience off my bucket list! Tito is an amazing instructor who performed in several shows in his youth and now has retired to teach classes. Such a wonderful class, filled with amazing and supportive people. If you're looking to try something different, this is it!

I went to visit family in Florida and popped into a bunch of different places this time. This was taken at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, which I had never been to before. Tucked away into a very neighborhood area, was this wonderful gardens complete with an orchid house. It was right on the water, so there were lots of really pretty shots among the mangroves. Although it threatened to rain, it thankfully held off until we were done with our excursion!

The Venice Museum and Archives is a free museum (donations appreciated!) housed in a really neat building that had been moved several blocks down the road from its original location. Having never been to this area of Florida before, I thought it was a really neat historic look at the area buildings and shops, as well as some of the more notable residents. The Barnum and Bailey Circus wintered down in the area. There was a really neat older looking photos of elephants crossing a bridge on foot taken less than 30 years ago! They also had some locally found sharks teeth and fossils/bones from animals that resided here many years ago.

Guptill Cottage is a really lovely historic home on the property with gorgeous old trees and a stones throw away from a boat building shed right along the water. It is impressive that this home has been able to withstand the storms coming off the Gulf for so many years. It was an extremely roomy home for the times, and had some lovely second story porch views! There was also a really lovely butterfly garden and an interesting aqueduct system. Definitely a neat visit tucked away off the main highway!

The White Cottage is a gorgeous home right along one of the inner waterways. It gets a wonderful breeze and has a lovely sunken garden with pretty forsythia bushes. One of the most influential area families lived here. A true business woman, widow Bertha Potter moved down from Chicago, doubled her wealth, and contributed significantly to the growth of the area in the early 20th century,

The Chapel at Historic Spanish Point is just a wee little thing in the woods, next to the cemetery. Due to disuse and lack of upkeep, the original structure was definitely not in good shape before it was renovated and rehabilitated. It even has a working bell! The cemetery had several generations of family members buried there. Definitely an interesting old chapel!

The first stop of the day was to the library attached to the Historic Spanish Point Welcome Center. I thought it was such a lovely place for a library, within a historic site, a pair of my favorite things. I really loved that the library had a nice screened in porch that patrons can sit and enjoy a nice read when the weather is just right. It was a tad north of warmer than my northern blood is able to handle, but it seemed about perfect for the Floridians to enjoy!

I started my visit off with a nice trip around the little nearby town, as I had never been that far south in Florida before. It definitely was a cute downtown area, with lots of little neat shops, including the BEST orchid plant shop I ever had the pleasure of stumbling upon. The next day, we came over to the mall to watch the movie Us. Now, I am not a fan of scary movies, but this one wasn't bad. I don't know if I would quite agree with some of the stellar ratings it received, but it definitely had it's funny parts for a "scary" movie. I'd definitely give it a watch, but perhaps wait until it's out of the theaters.

One of my favorite things about the holiday themed decorations was the slightly different way each of the resorts were dressed up. We visited several between where we stayed and dining locations. The Wilderness Lodge, one I had never been to before, had wonderful western themed decorations for their Christmas display. The resorts with the huge, towering lobbies had the most magnificent trees. The one in this location had teepees as tree decorations!

I was pretty impressed by the sheer number of rides and attractions we were able to do that I don't recall having done before, or at least not as an adult. There are such a wide variety of things to do, and one such thing was the show in the American Pavilion. I was pleasantly impressed by the animatronic bits, and was super glad we were able to check out so many different and wonderful things!

Having never been to Disney World for the Christmas season, we decided to take a trip with friends to check it out! It did not disappoint. Disney rarely does. This instance was no exception. Christmas is nothing without the magic and Disney has magic on super supply! Everything was perfectly decorated, festive food was abundant and delicious, and the lights... oh the lights! Spectacular. If you're a Disney fan, I cannot recommend going during the holiday season more!

I am so happy that I was able to take a long weekend down in the Orlando area. We had been talking about doing it, but hadn't gotten around to it. Although I definitely wish it would've been longer (so many more rides to ride, so many more meals to have eaten), I feel like it was a good length of trip to escape the cold and snowy/icy winter we've been having here. I certainly hope we've experienced the last of it. If not, well, I know there's always a place for me back in Florida.

We had a pretty brief trip to Hollywood Studios as the lines without fast passes for the major rides happen to be 1.5 hours or more. So we took a quick tour, Star Tour, did a few other smaller rides and headed out. Although I always remember a building being at the entrance, I don't remember actually looking at Sid's in the times I've been there. I'm not sure how long it's been there, but I know I've never gone in. And I've not gotten much further as we were headed back to the Magic Kingdom, where we had been able to score fast passes for the "mountain" rides.

It was really pretty neat to see the Hogwarts Castle from the book set in real life. Although I'm really a new convert to the books, I feel like they really did a good job on bringing the books to life in the park. While I've not seen the movies, I feel like the representations were pretty accurate to the books. I would've liked a few more rides in the Harry Potter World areas, but I think the ones that are there were done quite well.

I noticed that in my visit to the area this time, so many of the rides were 3-D based ones. I think we wore 3-D glasses at least a half dozen times if not more during the course of our long weekend there. It seems that is the direction that rides are headed rather than actual movement rides. (Although the their credit, some of those 3-D rides were on coaster tracks. Many of them however just shifted.) I am interested to see what the rides are like in the area the next time I go in several years. It's pretty crazy to see how much technology can change things in just a few years.

This was my first experience with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. To be honest I only read the first book in the series a few weeks back in order to get an idea of what it all was about. I definitely feel like I needed to have at least read the first book to get all the little in's and out's of everything. I probably should've read them all before going as there were a few things/characters I was confused about. But I definitely felt like I had a good knowledge base.

I must not have remembered a thing about Universal Studios when I went as a kid because it looked COMPLETELY different. Aside from the large globe, not a single thing looked familiar. Granted it has been several decades since I've been to the park, so it's definitely to be expected. It was neat seeing all the different little areas, but I was a bit underwhelmed. I think it's just that I am much more used to Disney that some of the Universal things weren't expected. I did enjoy my time there, but I won't be hurrying back next time I am in the area.

I definitely don't recall there being a Starbucks in all the Disney parks last time I was here, but that now seems to be the case. We all know I enjoy a nice warm beverage but I just wanted to stop in to see what the inside looked like. Definitely looked pretty futuristic compared to some of the other Starbucks' I've seen. I enjoyed popping in for a quick peek. We didn't stop in Animal Kingdom, but I'd be interested to see what the one there looks like if there is indeed one.

We didn't really have a lot of time to explore after dinner in the Germany Pavilion. So I basically just did a whirlwind walk through the pavilion to look at the remaining open shop. Most of them had closed down at 10 or were in the process of closing. I had eaten at the pavilion back in 2009, but don't remember doing much exploring when we went that time. I definitely want to poke around a bit more next time I am in Epcot.

Sometimes I find myself really glossing over the pavilions in Epcot. But there are so many little nooks and crannies filled with lovely things! I definitely want to spend more time in Epcot just looking at all the little things each pavilion has to offer. The China pavilion had a whole little subsection that I didn't even know existed! It was really cool to see the Terracotta Warrior exhibit as well as lots of good information about it.
