I had a wonderful dinner right around the corner from here at Zinc. One of my friends recommended it as well as one of my colleagues. If you're looking for an inexpensive, yet delicious, meal in the area, I would definitely recommend it. I think I am most impressed with the amount of outdoor restaurant seating that San Antonio boasts. Definitely something we don't get as much of where I live.

This hotel has a pass-through pathway from the touristy non-Riverwalk items, to the Riverwalk itself. It definitely had a lovely little sitting area to read in, feeling like you are outside when you're really inside. It also was very close to a nice little bar where a fellow was playing jazz music. Definitely a really good location if you are trying to be in the thick of things.

Although it certainly doesn't resemble the HB in Munich, Germany, it certainly was an interesting place with live music along an alley off the Riverwalk. As a tourist I thought the Riverwalk to be quite endearing. I know the local folk must tire easily of it and curse the tourists for flooding the area. As we tend to avoid the beach during the summer, I imagine the locals probably avoid the Riverwalk. But it is just so adorable with it's live music and open air seating for restaurants. The sounds of water lapping at the banks and the chatter of all sorts of people rising up from it's below street level location. I would be supremely happy if all big cities had Riverwalk's of their own. But I know that would pull from the charm of the Riverwalk in San Antonio. So perhaps we'll let San Antonio have this one.

Another thing I was amazed by when I was a kid was Ripley's Believe It Or Not. I first visited one when I was... I must've been 12 or so. If I had visited one sooner, I've since forgotten. I begged my parents to go when we were on vacation. I was so interested in all the oddities of the world. They had a 2 headed kitten (of which I am now well aware was not the actual kitten, thankfully.) They showed tribes from where I cannot now recall in their native gear, stuff I had never seen before. I lapped it up. I actually have now placed the book about Mr. Ripley himself on my list of books I'd like to read. I should think it'll be an entertaining read to say the least.

I used to have one of the Guinness World Records books when I was younger. I would pour over it and see all the weird and wonderful sorts of "records" that people held. I had no idea that there was an actual museum for that here. The information on the tallest man was right at the front area. He stood up and we were all impressed. We meaning me and the several family groups that had congregated around the entrance. I guess when a fellow is over 7 feet tall, he seems like quite the large guy no matter how old you are!

The Alamo is one the places that I would have loved to have seen had I been able to visit during normal business hours. I am in love with historical sites. I love to visit and imagine the people who stood in the same spots in years past. There's just something really interesting to me when it comes to thinking about how people lived and what went on in their lives years before I was born.

During one of my free evenings, I decided to do some exploring. Since I wasn't able to get out much during the day, I popped into one of the guest services places to determine if there was anything open late that would be worth checking out. Most of the things I was interested in kept normal business hours, so having a poke around was definitely my best course of action. But there did look like there were lots of neat things to do and see in San Antonio and the surrounding area.

One of the interesting things I learned when I took a little river boat cruise along the Riverwalk was that there is only one apartment building that overlooks the Riverwalk. Most of the other buildings are stores, restaurants, or hotels. I was pretty impressed by the sheer number of older buildings that had been turned into hotels. It seemed like you were never more than a stones throw away from one!

I was very excited to get to use my new paper from the Japan Pavilion in Epcot that I bought back in March. It's such fun paper to work with and very pretty! I did a lot of folding on my flight over from New Jersey as I sort of ran out of time to do so prior to my trip. It's hard to believe I've folded over 650 cranes since I started this project! I'm excited to use up the rest of this nice paper before I start using some of my old paper again. And, in true paper addict fashion, I have a ton of paper that I've bought but not yet cut up. I definitely have WAY more sheet than I need to finish off this project. That just means I have to think of something else to do when this is over!

I think one of the coolest things about the Riverwalk area, was that, from above, you basically couldn't tell it was there. It was a level lower than street level. Essentially it just looked like trees from above. Even walking on the street level, aside from signs and staircases, you wouldn't even know it was there. It feels like a whole different world when you're walking along it.
