After a morning visit to the doctors, I decided to see what Rook was all about. Their logo, a black raven-esque bird with a white circle around it and a larger black circle behind it, is pretty prevalent in the area on shirts and bumper stickers. I'm all about creative advertising that leads a person in. The Rook in the Little Silver Train Station is quite lovely. I wish it had been there when I used that train station regularly when living up that way. I had the Berry Tea, which was quite good. I definitely foresee myself going back to one again. Perhaps I'll check out one of the several other locations as they are definitely a good spot for crane releases!

Not only was Crane 330 (Befriend) found, but it was re-released! On October 5th, I got an email from Lisa:

"Hi Sandy,

We found a nice sunny place for the “Befriend” crane on a bench alongside the playground at Parker Sickles Park in Little Silver this morning. Here’s a picture.

All my best,
Lisa"

She and her co-workers Tori and Christine found the crane that I placed in Sickles Market, so they re-placed it for someone to find in the park nearby. How exciting!

It felt like a perfect fall day, so I figured it was probably time to pick up some outdoor decorations. So I popped over to the only place I knew around here that would have mums for the front porch. I was impressed by the number of different colors there are. I've never bought mums before so hopefully I picked out a good one and my plant kiss of death doesn't get the best of me. Do you guys have any fall activities or traditions that you're excited to do?

I feel like I am never really composed when I'm releasing cranes. I always wonder if someone will see me. Or if they think I'm eccentric. I mean, oftentimes I go into a place, scout a spot to put a crane, take a picture as discretely as possible, and then quickly walk away. Do I look suspicious when trying to be inconspicuous? I imagine myself being comically conspicuous to the point where perhaps I should wear a trench coat whilst placing. I probably look more composed than I feel. Well, at least I hope I do!

Well, some cranes are perfect for the location where they've been left. This crane is not one of those. I didn't release it while seeing an old friend that I've not seen in a while. To be honest, I hadn't ever been to this branch of the Valley National Bank before. I guess in a very loose way I was "reunited" with the bank where I had my first car loan (which has been paid off, thankfully.) But life isn't perfect so we just have to make due.

In the face of camera phone issues (as well as apparently my phone eating my notes), the picture of this crane prior to placing was lost in the abyss of my phone. So we'll just have to talk about how funny the word slaphappy is. It makes me giggle anytime I hear it. Perhaps it brings back the good old days of cartoon watching as a child, but there's just something about the word that is so filled with awesomeness. I'm not the only one that lives this word, am I?

Happy (belated) Independence Day/4th of July to those other American's out there. And Happy (even more belatedly) Canada Day to those who celebrated. This time of year makes me feel quite patriotic and thankful for all the men and women who fought and continue to fight for our freedom. Sometimes we forget about them during the hubbub of our busy lives but it's important to remember what lead us to this point in our lives and be thankful for it.
