In an attempt to see lots of historic houses and sites in one day, I set out to see 4 places. The first was the Marine Museum. The Mill House Museum was the 4th. (One historic house was closed without warning for further notice and the other was closed due to a movie shoot. As you do.) The Mill House Museum is the last remaining bit of the Mill House that was destroyed. It was chocked to the gills with historic photos, knick knacks, and information. It talked a lot about the history of the town of Occoquan and provided a wealth of information sitting at the far end of the downtown district. If you're in town, it's worth a quick peek!

I decided to stop in Occoquan as it looked like a lovely little town situated along the appropriately named Occoquan River. I am a bit of a sucker for small towns with charming little shops. This one was just as lovely. They had live music playing at one of the restaurants with lots of outdoor seating. They had a variety of mom and pop shops of knick knacks, edibles, and pretty outdoor vistas. It certainly helped that I had lovely spring weather!

The National Museum of the Marine Corps is a wonderful museum about the U.S. marines and the history behind them throughout the years. This free museum is staffed by veterans who are extremely informative. They cover the history up through the Vietnam War but are currently in the process of expanding to cover the more recent past. Additionally, there are a ton of wonderful interactive exhibits, video clips, and experiences. It is, hands down, one of the most impressive history museums that I have ever visited!

As watches often do, mine needed a new battery as it had stopped several days prior. I had gotten tired of wearing a watch that wasn't working, glancing at my wrist only to remind myself that it wasn't really 1pm several days prior. So I stopped at this mall in hopes of finding a place that could replace the battery. Among the plethora of other stores, I did indeed find a fellow who did watch repairs. Success was ever so sweet, and it is certainly nice to actually be able to look down and see the correct time again.

I totally wish I had more time to visit the many historic sites that are around Fredericksburg! It is quite the history mecca with Civil War sites, historic homes, a cemetery, and a nice waterfront area. I look forward to coming back to check out all of the good information I got from the visitor's center!

I enjoy going to a new place to see what sorts of different things they have that I've not tried before. I enjoyed myself some delicious blueberry iced tea. It was really delicate in flavor and a wonderful treat since the day was unseasonably warm for April. Definitely made for a nice addition while walking around the adorable town of Fredericksburg!

It was here that I discovered my favorite drink is back, the peach green tea lemonade! It is a warm weather favorite, and I always get happy when the peach flavor is back. Generally it means the cold is on its way out, the warmth and fun times are on their way back in.And while it's certainly not been the best of weather as of late, it's definitely been weather where it doesn't hurt to breath outside, or you can stand outside with a light jacket and not freeze. Bring on the warmth!

Man, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the Earl of Sandwich. The last time I had enjoyed that was down in Orlando, Florida as we don't have those around by where I live. So it was a nice treat to find out that this rest area had one! It was a nice treat to break up a long drive home.

I was so excited that I was able to visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial this trip. I had not been back to Washington, D.C. since they had completed the memorial. It was absolutely wonderful. I thought the quotes that they had there were extremely thought provoking, and the location was perfect. It is a very appropriate tribute to an important figure in history. I am so glad the trip into D.C. included this memorial as it was one of the few I hadn't yet visited.

The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is an extremely memorable, somber, and all around educational place to attend. I've been to the museum several times, and am impressed by their poignant exhibits. I believe this should be a required visit while in D.C. for everyone. I attended for the first time on a class trip back in middle school, and this experience was no less moving.
