During one of my free evenings, I decided to do some exploring. Since I wasn't able to get out much during the day, I popped into one of the guest services places to determine if there was anything open late that would be worth checking out. Most of the things I was interested in kept normal business hours, so having a poke around was definitely my best course of action. But there did look like there were lots of neat things to do and see in San Antonio and the surrounding area.

One of the interesting things I learned when I took a little river boat cruise along the Riverwalk was that there is only one apartment building that overlooks the Riverwalk. Most of the other buildings are stores, restaurants, or hotels. I was pretty impressed by the sheer number of older buildings that had been turned into hotels. It seemed like you were never more than a stones throw away from one!

I was very excited to get to use my new paper from the Japan Pavilion in Epcot that I bought back in March. It's such fun paper to work with and very pretty! I did a lot of folding on my flight over from New Jersey as I sort of ran out of time to do so prior to my trip. It's hard to believe I've folded over 650 cranes since I started this project! I'm excited to use up the rest of this nice paper before I start using some of my old paper again. And, in true paper addict fashion, I have a ton of paper that I've bought but not yet cut up. I definitely have WAY more sheet than I need to finish off this project. That just means I have to think of something else to do when this is over!

I think one of the coolest things about the Riverwalk area, was that, from above, you basically couldn't tell it was there. It was a level lower than street level. Essentially it just looked like trees from above. Even walking on the street level, aside from signs and staircases, you wouldn't even know it was there. It feels like a whole different world when you're walking along it.

I decided to take a full walk around the Riverwalk and do some exploring on one of the free evening periods I had. I headed over toward the Rivercenter Mall area. The Marriott was along the way. Although I can't say much about the rooms, the lobby itself was nice with a Starbucks located there. Definitely nice and close to the mall and many of the shops they had available. If I had more time, I would've did a bit more poking around of the mall which was attached to it.

The Grand Hyatt in San Antonio is definitely one of the nicer hotels I've stayed in. It's located basically right on the Riverwalk, making it super easy to get to many of the hotels and other tourist type attractions in the downtown area. I stayed on one of the higher floors that had a view out to the Riverwalk. It was definitely quite nice.

The second leg of my trip was taken on one of the smaller planes I've been on. I definitely prefer flying on larger planes as it tends to be less bumpy. By the time your plane gets up to cruising altitude on the shorter flights, it's ready to go right back down again! I was sitting on the window of this flight, so it was nice to see some of the scenery. I had the same type of plane on the way home, but I was able to pass the time quicker as I knew my seatmate on the way back.

I am sort of obsessed with the "You Are Here" mugs that Starbucks has put out. I first saw them while I was in San Fransisco. That was my first purchase. Ever since then, when I am traveling, I try to see if Starbucks has one of those mugs. If I like the picture, I get it. I now have San Fransisco, New York City, San Antonio and Austin (as the Houston Airport had that one and I liked it.) I realized recently that Disney also has their own versions! I didn't even think to look in the Starbucks when I was releasing cranes down there. Now I am checking on eBay to see if they have any for sale. They are quite cute!

I visited Texas for the first time this past week. I was traveling down to San Antonio for business and had a layover in Houston. The airport was surprisingly big and easy to travel between all the different terminals. I did a lot of exploring during my 2 hour layover as I had not even been in this airport before. I also picked up some breakfast as I knew I wasn't going to get anything else to eat that morning. Aside from having to change terminals for my connecting flight, I definitely wouldn't mind having to layover here again!

I decided to take a foray into the city to see a show at Symphony Space, which I had never been to. It's a really intimate venue where the stage can easily be seen from any seat. I was a bit later than I had hoped to be as I was coming straight from work and had to catch the train and subway in order to get up to the City. It ended up being a good show and I left a bit early to catch the train back home. I'm looking forward to seeing what other shows they have available as it was not too difficult to get to.
