Another Crane Finder!!

I got this email a couple weeks ago:

November 28, 2010 at 11:41pm

Sandy,

My name is Ciara. I'm 15 years old and I live in Massachusetts. I have been volunteering at the New England Aquarium for about 7 months now, and I absolutely love it. There have been a lot of things going on in my life which have made me question many aspects of myself as a person. The Aquarium is one of the few places I can just let go and be myself and really feel like I'm doing something meaningful. I was roaming around the Giant Ocean Tank around closing time about a month ago when I found your crane. The word "esteem" to me means being proud of everything about yourself without even stopping to think about how somebody else sees it. Finding your crane has given me a lot more confidence in having a positive outlook on things, knowing that I can get through anything. I would like some time to share the crane with the people around me, but when I re-release it, I will be sure to let you know.
Thank you for everything, and I greatly support you on this mission for peace.

Ciara

P.S. I just started up a channel on youtube, and I was hoping it would be okay with you if I could post a video about the crane I found and your entire project. Let me know your thoughts.

I wanted to wait until she did the video so that I could post it with the entry for you lovely readers to see! This is a link to Ciara's YouTube channel video about her story of finding a crane. It made me a bit teary. A better person could not have found this crane. It is always my hope that the people who find these cranes take meaning away from them and hopefully find one that resonates with them. And it really sounds like that happened with Ciara and Esteem. Thanks for emailing me Ciara and for making such a wonderful video!

PS- And let's send Ciara some good health thoughts! I can't imagine having pneumonia AND bronchitis at the same time.

"Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries sure can help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away?" Take it away everybody!

It was only fitting that I head over to the bar where the popular U.S. TV show Cheers (1982-1993) was shot. And while the bar wasn't the one in the TV show, and no one, other than my dinning companion, knew my name, it was still nice to visit.

Aquariums always make me feel like a kid at heart. There's just something about pretty fish and other sea animals that delights. Especially the penguins, who managed to steal most of my attention during the trip.

Even though this is only my second time, I think my favorite place to admire the city of Boston is from the wharves. Long Wharf particularly makes for some lovely photos of Boston.

(adj) conforming to your own feelings, likings, or nature

I find Boston to be a very agreeable city. It has a lot of things I enjoy: historical sights (oh yes, I am a dork!), lots of wonderful food places, pretty parks, water front areas, lots of activities. It was a bonus that it wasn't terribly crowded when I was around. But I hear the winter's are wicked harsh. (Forgive my New England joke!) I don't do well in the super cold and probably wouldn't adapt well to all the walking around in snow. But in those warmer months, Boston is a gem. If I were to live in an urban area, I'd want it to be a city like Boston. Is there a city that you particularly like? What about it do you like?

Having never been to Salem before, I certainly enjoyed this trip. I learned a lot, saw new sights, and spent time with a good friend. What more could I ask for? It definitely was an adventure and an afternoon well spent. What sorts of things do you all enjoy?

There was definitely a lot I didn't know about the Salem Witch Trials. This museum was pretty interesting. I occasionally felt pleased with myself for remembering a bit of it from the novel The Crusible as I had to read it back in high school. But it was little more than the names. It kind of made me want to run over to the nearest library to pick the book up.

Boston and New York City!

I'm headed out to Boston and later New York City for a long weekend starting tomorrow. So if you happen to find a crane between now and when I hope to get all my crane posts up (Monday evening or Tuesday sometime), just sit tight. They will all come.

Are you guys doing anything fun this weekend? Or have anywhere you want me to try placing a crane in either of these cities? Let me know! Either way, have a great weekend.
