I've been told on more than one occasion that sometimes I say things at are a bit... dated. It's even been said once that I talk like a Grandma, whatever that means. Suffice to say I've used the word swell before. Pretty recently, mind you. However, the time when swell was a popular word was WAYYY before my time. But I think it's a pretty nifty word regardless. Do you ever catch yourself saying something a bit dated?
Yes,all the time! I like it, because I think that we've lost a capacity for expression that previous generations had because they read more than we tend to, so anyone who uses a 'vintage' word or phrase reintroduces the beauty of language to the mainstream. I LOVE WHAT YOU ARE DOING!! Congratulations on your beautiful idea, and on making it a reality. You are very inspirational. xo

ReplyDeleteI don't know about "dated", per se, but I use the phrase "to be truthful" instead of "to be honest". I never really noticed I was doing it until Steve pointed it out and said it was "different"!
